    Green industrial park recognized

    The United Nations Industrial Development Organization certified a "green industrial park" on Monday - China's fifth. The title was given to the Quanzhou Economic and Technological Development Park in East China's Fujian province, a local light industry hub, home to manufacturers of clothes, shoes, digital devices, machinery and medicines. UNIDO's green industrial park title refers to a new type of industrial park, which uses closed materials circulation, multistage energy use and waste minimization to maximize the efficiency of resources and energy utilization, and to minimize pollutants generated from industrial production sources. Since 2012, UNIDO has certified four such parks in China, in Urumqi, Zhangye, Lianyungang and Yantai.

    Hong Kong holds investment seminar

    Invest Hong Kong held an investment promotion seminar at the 2017 China International Fair for Investment and Trade in Xiamen, Fujian province on Monday. The event encouraged local companies to leverage Hong Kong's business advantages to "go global" through Hong Kong under the Belt and Road Initiative. Entitled "Belt and Road, Together We Grow", this is the 16th consecutive year that InvestHK has exhibited in the Hong Kong Pavilion at CIFIT. The exhibition showcases how Hong Kong's role as a "super connecter" between China and the rest of the world can assist in developing the economy of the Belt and Road region, and the diverse range of world-class business professional services that the city can offer. Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK Francis Ho, said: "Under the Belt and Road Initiative, Fujian companies can leverage Hong Kong's role as a 'super-connector' between the Chinese mainland and the rest of the world to go global. At the same time, foreign investors can make use of Hong Kong's enduring advantages to enter the mainland and other Asian markets."

    Cross-Straits agricultural fair

    As part of CIFIT, the 10th Cross-Straits Agricultural Products Fair was launched in the city of Nan'an, Fujian province on Sept 17. The fair has six display areas, featuring products from Taiwan, the Chinese mainland, countries along the Belt and Road route, Hong Kong and Macao, Nan'an local products, and new agricultural businesses. Products include agricultural specialties, fruit, river products, foods, agricultural machinery and agricultural e-commerce. The first fair was held in 2008. Since then, a total of 1,942 contracts have been signed, reaching deals worth 13.7 billion yuan ($2. More than 500 enterprises and associations from Taiwan have participated.

    Female startups focused event

    A Xiamen female entrepreneurs hall was set up at CIFIT, held in Xiamen from Monday. The hall is an exchange platform for entrepreneurs and startups in Xiamen and Taiwan, which are members of the Cross-Straits Women Startup's Base. The purpose of the hall is to share experiences and to strengthen women's contribution to technological advances and economic development, according to organizers. Enterprises from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan displayed foods, tea, high-tech and environmentally friendly products at the event.
